APEC Training Workshop on Energy and Water Efficiency in Water Supply, 9-10 March 2010, Hotel Hilton Hanoi Opera in Hanoi, Vietnam
On behalf of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Alliance to Save Energy, with
support from South East Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN), will conduct a training
workshop on identifying no-cost and low-cost opportunities for efficiency improvements in water
supply and wastewater treatment systems in order to achieve concrete energy and water savings, and
on using performance-based contracting to finance the higher cost improvements.
Participants will come from SEAWUN member utilities and other APEC member economies.
On behalf of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Alliance to Save Energy, with
support from South East Asian Water Utilities Network (SEAWUN), will conduct a training

supply and wastewater treatment systems in order to achieve concrete energy and water savings, and on using performance-based contracting to finance the higher cost improvements.
The Alliance to Save Energy is a non-profit coalition of business, environmental, government and
consumer leaders which has been promoting the efficient use of energy worldwide for more than 30
years. The Alliance’s Watergy program focuses on the strong link between water and energy in
municipal water supply and wastewater treatment systems. The program helps cities and water
utilities realize significant energy, water, and monetary savings, through technical and managerial
improvements. To date the Alliance has helped more than 100 cities in more than a dozen countries around the world implement Watergy improvements.
Participants will be utility engineers/senior techno managers, utility administrators, senior
officials, utility managers, municipal officials from APEC economies
The workshop will be conducted over two days in March. The first day will consist of a classroom-style training session, focusing on the concepts involved in Watergy and
municipal energy efficiency programs. The second day will feature a field visit to Hanoi Water Works for hands-on training in the fundamentals of energy audits, and demonstrations of key instruments used in energy audits. Reference materials will be distributed among the participants.
Additional information: The workshop will be conducted in English and is free of charge for
participants from APEC economies. Space is limited to 30 participants.
• Application for travel support (airfare only) is available for the following member
economies: Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Philippines,
Peru, the Russian Federation, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
• Travel support is limited to 2 people for each eligible economy (government officials is
normally not funded by APEC). Applications should be sent to Alliance to Save Energy.
