Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Solutions in Developing Countries Conference and Exhibition, 23 - 26 March 2010 in Surabaya, Indonesia
The Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA) and the International Water Association (IWA) jointly organize a DEWATS conference and exhibition in Surabaya, Indonesia.
The Conference aims to bring together top wastewater and sanitation experts, governments, utilities and international agencies to share and discuss their expertise, knowledge and experiences on decentralized wastewater treatment solutions. Some of the key areas that will be examined include technical decentralized options, community-based sanitation, management options, best practices, and sanitation up-scaling and integration. Presentations that focus on applications, case studies and lessons learnt would be preferred, although submissions of scientific nature are also welcomed.
The conference will consist of presentations from invited speakers who are leaders and experts in the field of decentralized wastewater options.
As part of the conference, there will be an poster presentation and an exhibition area. Delegates can find sanitation and wastewater operators, associations, networks and international donor agencies at the exhibition sharing their knowledge and expertise, and showcasing their activities,
products and latest innovations.

Furthermore, site visits to community-based sanitation options, as well as NGO managed systems, with public toilets, waste and waste water components, small sewerage systems and biogas application will be organized. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to inspect the septage sludge treatment plant of a medium sized city. While visiting the implementations, participants will be given the chance to have detailed discussions with the stakeholders, such as the community facilitators, the community-based organizations, local and provincial government authorities, as well as facilitating NGOs.
